Masturbation
What is masturbation?
Masturbation is a form of self love - you could call it solo sex. It's a way of having sex with yourself, and showing appreciation to yourself. In short, loving yourself.
Is masturbation normal?
Masturbation is a social part of our sex lives, and a lot of people are afraid of it because we have a lot of social taboos about it. It's absolutely normal to masturbate, even if it's every day or several times a day, it's quite normal.
Can I use sex toys during maturbation?
One of the key first aids you will use is your own imagination. Many people use a variety of objects, particularly sex toys such as vibrators, during masturbation. That is what they're made for.
Is it okay to carry on masturbating even though I'm in a relationship?
A lot of people are quite worried that masturbating means that you don't have total commitment to your partner, if you still want to masturbate. That is a negative approach to take to masturbation, because what it means is that you're still giving time to yourself, showing appreciation for yourself, and it's also a way of taking some pressure off the sort of sexual aspect of the relationship. In a relationship, sometimes there are things that are going on, there are fluctuations in emotions, and either partner may not want to have sex with each other, but they can continue to have sex with themselves. It doesn't mean that there's anything wrong with the relationship.
I'm 15 years old and can't stop masturbating, why is this?
When you're 15, and particularly if you're a 15 year old boy, your hormones are at an all-time high. You're about to reach your sexual peak, which is at about 18 for a boy. Your body has taken over from you, your hormones are just driving your desire, and everything seems to be a sexual turn-on at that age. It is particularly marked in boys. I am not saying that girls feel it less, but probably tend to act on it less than boys do. It's absolutely normal at that age to do it. In fact, it's normal when you're older to do the same thing, and I'm sure that if you talked to a lot of men, they'd say that even when they're in their 20's or 30's, that they still like to do it several times a day.
Why do men like to watch their partners masturbate?
Surveys show that men would really like to watch their partner masturbate. It's about sharing intimacy, and enjoying seeing a woman pleasuring herself. It takes some pressure off men as well, having to provide all the pleasure if they can see that a woman can do it for herself, and I think it's a bit of a gift for women if you can allow yourself to do this in front of your partner. You're really allowing yourself to be open and vulnerable, and share something that you never usually share with anybody else at all.
I was upset when I walked in on my husband masturbating, is this a normal reaction?
I think it's not an unexpected and an unrealistic one. We all feel that we are not enough for our partners. There's always that slight thought of "would he really like something else?" Even if you are not aware that somebody is doing it, you tend to wonder if he thinking about you, or if it is about somebody else. It's surprising to find that out even in long-term relationships - there are many partners who do continue to masturbate, without their partners knowing. It's always hidden away or done discretely in the bathroom, particularly with men. Obviously, women don't. Once you understand why they are doing it, there is no need to be afraid of it.
During sex my husband likes to masturbate, should I be worried?
Your husband likes to masturbate while you are having sex - there's certainly no problem with it, because sex takes so many forms. There are times when you might not want to have penetrative sex. For example, during menstruation or when you've got a bad back or you are pregnant. With mutual masturbation, or it can be one partner masturbation, masturbating can result in both partners having pleasurable sex.
