Middle School Studying For Your Learning Style

Do individuals learn in different ways?

For studying your learning style in middle school, psychologists have found that many individuals do learn in different ways. So, if you find that your friend next to you is learning something very quickly and you're not, it might just mean that you have different learning styles. He may learn by hearing, whereas you may learn by seeing something physically written out.

What kinds of "learning styles" are there?

Educators and psychologists have found that there are different types of learning styles. They've broken the learning styles down into three different categories. The first learning style is comprised of audio learners, which are people who learn best by hearing. Audio learners usually do best in environments where you're being lectured, or they can constantly hear what's going on. The next learning style is made up of visual learners, who learn best by seeing something. Visual learners learn very quickly from maps, charts, graphs or from seeing words and numbers physically put in front of them. The last learning style is made up of tactile learners, who learn best by doing. That means tactile learners need to be engaged in what they're learning. So tactile learners are the types of people who usually do the best when they are physically counting something, or working with devices.

How can I determine my learning style?

If you want to determine your learning style in middle school, you probably already have a good idea of which way works best for you. Here's a good example for determining your learning style. If your class is reading Romeo and Juliet, and you remember most when people read aloud, then that means you're probably an auditory learner. Whereas, if you learn the best by physically reading the lines or seeing your teacher write them out on the board, that's probably means you're a visual learner. Lastly, if you actually need to act out a part in a play yourself, or perform for people, this means you're probably a tactile learner.

What are some study tips for visual learners?

When in the topic of studying for you learning style, study tips for visual learners are that if you are a visual learner, one of the best tools you can use are flash cards, because this way you can physically look at each one of the words and see them, which is best for your type of learning. Also, another tip is to try and use different colored inks for different things you're learning, for example, vocabulary words. Put all the nouns in orange ink, put all your verbs in green ink, and put all your adjectives in purple ink. That way, next time you see the word, you'll probably remember that it was written in purple ink, and that will help you for your exam.

What are some study tips for "auditory learners"?

For middle school, if you're an auditory learner, one of the best ways to study is to possibly make an audio CD for you. A tip if you're trying to learn your multiplication tables or to learn formulas, say them out and record them on a cassette tape, then play them back to yourself. Just wear your headphones while you're doing dishes or any other household chores, and that will constantly remind you and help you remember those formulas. Also, another tip for an auditory learner is to have somebody verbally review the information with you. That way, you can hear them say the answers and you can hear yourself answering them, this will help you for your exams.

What are some study tips for "tactile learners"?

If you're a tactile learner, some of the best things you can do to help with your studying is try and figure out ways for you to physically engage yourself in the material. For their Math, that means tactile learners should use beans or types of counters to figure out the problems. Or, for English, tactile learners should try acting out a part of a play with somebody else or reading it aloud and performing it.
