TJ McClearin (Business Manager, Infinity Wireless, LLC) gives expert video advice on: How many songs can be stored on an MP3 player? and more...
What is a "portable multimedia player" (PmP)?
A portable multimedia player (PmP) is a device that allows customers to interact with different types of media that they have stored on their computers. Whether it's videos, music, documents or downloaded movies, the portable media player gives the customer the ability to take the media that they've purchased and access it elsewhere outside the home or office.
What is an "MP3 player"?
An MP3 player is a device, such as an iPod, the iRiver, or the RCA Lyra, which allows you to take compressed audio files, and throw them on a solid state piece of memory (whether it's 10 gigs or 20 gigs), giving the user the ability to carry a lot more of their music with them than they would had they been using CDs or tapes.
How many songs can be stored on an MP3 player?
MP3 players' song storage is based on the compression of the audio file itself. If the audio file is compressed at a greater rate that means that it's not going to sound as good but the audio files are a lot smaller, and the MP£ player stores more. If the audio file is not as compressed it means the files are larger, the MP3 player stores fewer but they sound better.
How many movies can I store on my PmP?
Most movies average about an hour and a half in length. With high level encoding and great picture quality, each file tends to be around 700 megabytes when stored on a PmP. Most PmPs have a storage range of anywhere between 40 and 200 gigs. At around 60 gigs, you can hold approximately 15 to 20 hours of video on a PmP, depending on how it's encoded.
