Nail Problems
What causes 'yellow nails'?
Yellow nails are caused by different things. For example, not using a base coat to protect against a red polish, or maybe wearing polish for too long, depending on what color. That can turn your nails yellow. It could be an infection within your body that can turn your nails yellow, or over exposure to the sun and not having sunscreen on the nails. There are many different reasons why our nails can turn yellow. I would advise using a really good base coat, or even if you're not going to wear color at least put a base or top coat on there to avoid over exposure to the sun.
How do I remedy 'yellow nails'?
You can get rid of yellow nails by using a soft, coarse file because the nails are much stronger than the finger nails. You can file on the toenails more than you could on your natural nails, or take a light buffer and just buff the top of it until the yellow goes away and that toenail is thick enough where you're able to apply that type of pressure on the nail bed. If you have a yellow finger nail, sometimes acetone will remove it or lightly buff the nail. Get into the habit of using a base coat to avoid having to file your nails at all.
How can I fix a broken nail?
You can fix a broken nail by sprinkling on little powders. First, you'd brush on the glue wherever the crack is, and then sprinkle on the powder, let it dry, and buff it. There are many ways - you could also use a silk wrap to repair it, a paper wrap, a little acrylic patch. If you're going to do it yourself, I would advise just using the glue with a little bit of powder.
How can I get rid of nail ridges?
You can get rid of nail ridges by lightly buffing. The best way to do it is to add a nail fortifer that's going to give you the nutrients that you need in that product, because by buffing you might overdo it and you're going to break down your nail bed even more. I would stick to nail strengtheners.
How can I keep my nails from becoming brittle?
You can keep your nails from becoming brittle by taking the right supplements in your diet, drinking lots of water, eating the proper foods, and using a nail builder that's going to solve that problem. Most nail strengtheners will take you to the point where you have strong healthy nails.
How can I fix a lifting acrylic nail at home?
If you have a lifting acrylic nail and you're at home, the best way to fix it is to stick your finger in acetone and get it off immediately; do not try to clip it or move it. Alternatively, try and call your manicurist saying you have an emergency nailfix. Or you can apply a little bit of glue, hold it down for the maximum a day and then go to your manicurist to remove it, because a proper way to fix that, even as a manicurist, would be to take the entire thing off and reapply the acrylic.
How can I camouflage regrowth when my artificial nails need to be filled?
You can camouflage regrowth, depending on if you have a polish on. You can go over with a darker polish, and try to put a couple of coats on. Or, if it's just a clear, french manicure that you have, simply remove all the polish and put a clear coat over the top.
