NASCAR Qualifying Rules
What are the basic qualifying rules for NASCAR?
Each car goes out and is given a warm up lap and two time laps. The fastest of those two time laps is your qualifying time. Whoever gets the fastest time is on the pole on the front road, and the slowest time will obviously then start at the back.
What is a 'pole position' in NASCAR?
What is a 'qualifying lap' in NASCAR?
A qualifying lap is basically where you want to go as fast as you can. And in NASCAR, you will have two laps to achieve this, and they will pick your fastest lap. You might decide what's going to be your fast lap, whether it's your first one or your second one. Usually it's your first one because by that time you have pretty well used up the tires trying to go as fast as you can. But you never know, sometimes the second lap. You just try to go as fast as you can because that determines your starting position.
What is 'winning the pole' in NASCAR?
Winning the pole is having the fastest qualifying lap. That means you start first.
What is a 'provisional entry' in NASCAR?
That means that you weren't able to qualify in the top 43, but you as a car owner or a past champion qualify to take one of the positions -- usually at the back of the pack -- as a provisional entry.
