What is an off-shore fund?
An off-shore fund is one that is registered off-shore, in other words outside of UK waters, for tax purposes.
What are the advantages of investing in off-shore funds?
The advantages of investing in off-shore funds is that the assets within the fund grow free of tax. You also have control over the amount of money that you can withdraw from your particular off-shore fund. That gives you the ability in years when your own income is low to increase it by taking an additional amount out of your bond. Your advisor will always keep you posted as to how the rules and regulations from the revenue affect your withdrawals or your capital within the bond.
Are off-shore funds higher risk?
Off-shore funds can be high risk because of the currency element. If you are purchasing a fund which is registered in dollars or Euro with sterling you could find that could be an adverse when converting your money back into sterling. It should also be considered that the individual funds that your investing in carry an element of risk so before investing please contact a financial advisor.
Are off-shore funds regulated?
Not all off-shore funds are regulated, but when dealing through a UK registered advisor, he will advise you on which fund are regulated and which funds are not.
