What is 'earth friendly clothing?

There are a lot of ways clothing can be more earth-friendly. Some things you can look for is clothing made out of recycled fibers, or organic clothing. Cotton production uses 25% of the world's pesticides. So by using organic cotton, you're really supporting a more earth-friendly clothing industry. Some other things you can look for are clothing made of more sustainable fibers like hemp and soy and bamboo. Those are becoming more and more popular. I shop at secondhand stores or a lot of garage sales so I'm reusing clothing. There's a great website called Ecomall.com which has lots of different suppliers of earth-friendly clothing.

Where can I buy earth friendly clothing?

You can buy earth friendly clothing, and a lot of it is available online. One great site is ecomall.com, and they have lots of different companies and good explanations of what kind of earth friendly clothing they sell. You can also shop at garage sales or second hand stores, and recycle clothing.

What are the environmental benefits of using cloth diapers instead of disposable diapers?

The main benefit to cloth diapers as opposed to disposable diapers is that disposable diapers, because of the gel that is used for absorption and the plastic, can take a long time to decompose. They estimate about 500 years, so that takes up a lot of landfill space. Cloth diapers can be used up to 200 times each, so that energy and the water used to make disposable diapers is going to be a lot more than the energy and water that can be used to use and clean cloth diapers. So that's a good thing to look into. Cloth diapers also don't have the bleachers and chemicals that disposable diapers do.

What are some alternatives to using cloth diapers?

Cloth diapers can be cumbersome, and a lot of people don't want to worry about washing them. One option is that if you have cloth diapers, you can have a company come and wash them for you, which makes things a little bit easier. You don't have the cost effectiveness of them, but you are doing something better for the environment. Another option is that there are biodegradable disposable diapers, and they biodegrade easily and quickly into the environment. They also don't contain bleaches like conventional disposable diapers. If you are going to try cloth diapers, then don't be too concerned if you use disposable diapers in addition. Sometimes I'll use disposable diapers and I had to use them sometimes at night, and also when we go on trips, or when I just haven't got around to washing the cloth diapers yet. Don't be too concerned that you can never use a disposable diaper.

What is bamboo and why is it considered sustainable?

Bamboo is a grass and it grows very fast and it grows all over the world. One of the benefits to it is that it is naturally antimicrobial, so you don't have to use the harsh pesticides and other chemicals to make it grow. That way it is better for the environment and also because it grows so fast, it can be used very quickly.

What products can be made with bamboo?

There are over 100 documented uses for bamboo, and it's becoming more and more popular to be used to make products. You can find bamboo in fabric, silk clothing and in sheets and towels. You can also find bamboo flooring and plates and other serving material, so it's a relatively inexpensive product because it is so prolific.
