Party Planning Basics
What is a 'party'?
A party is a celebration. Let's not talk about the college definition of party because that really has no meaning. If we ask Webster's definition, Webster's defines it as a celebration for a specific reason. If you ask me, my personal definition for party is when two or more people gather to lift each other's spirits and celebrate life. That is a party.
What are the key ingredients for an exceptional party?
There are 5 steps to create an outrageously successful party: Step number 1- The Invitation, with high energy creative words to get the people excited about coming to your event. Step number 2 - Very important: Greet your guests at the entrance. I cannot stress this enough. Dr. Abraham Maslow talks to us in his Hierarchy of Needs, right smack in the middle the sense of belonging. When you welcome someone at the front door, you've invited them into your home, you set the tone of the party. Their energy rises. Step 3- Create the Ambiance. Change some of your light bulbs around to pink; it enhances women's makeup. Also, move your furniture around. Remember your furniture is set up for everyday living. Make that work for you. Step number 4 - Folks come on, give your guests something to do. Eating and drinking--that's just not a party - we do that every day but get your guests involved with the party. And for Step 5 - Fun, Food and Great Beverage. Make it exciting, make it fun for them. Do unique foods and remember one thing: to mix up the food. Include some vegetarian items, some meat, some chicken, some fish and make it nice that way. Have a specialty drink that evening, a ‘feature drink' as we call it. When you have all the 5 Steps you therefore, then, will create an outrageously successful party.
What is an 'event planner'?
An event planner is someone who takes your ideas for your party and makes it happen. They start with the invitation and go all the way to the thank you letters.
