Party Themes
What is a party's 'theme'?
A theme for a party can be just about anything you'd like. You can have a car enthusiasts theme. You can have a magic theme. You can have a Cinderella theme. You can have a toga theme. The theme is really something that you'd want to make sure your guests are going to enjoy. And if it's a particular time of the year, and a certain item is in style, well that's nice. I mean Art Deco was in vogue for a while. So whatever your theme is, I recommend you research it and figure the best way to do it. Sometimes it's with a décor and then you can match the food as well, and also the drink. Also, if you are hiring servers, it a great idea to put your staff in the theme clothing.
What are tips for finding a great party theme?
Well, great tips on how to come up with themes. One of the ways that I have done is that I have actually sent a client to a fabric store. They literally went in and saw the amazing different patterns; baseball, soccer, and there were Polynesian themes. From that, they then came up with the idea that they wanted to do a Polynesian theme based on the fabrics, and bringing all those colors along with the flowers. That is one way. Another way is talk to your friends, and find out what would be a great theme that you think everybody would really get into? Also find out what is in vogue that year. Maybe race cars are the hottest thing, soccer now is becoming very popular, so maybe a sports theme is for you. But also make it something about you if it is your party, so look at what you like to do. But then, once you know what you like to do, then of course you have to make the party around to the guests needs and wants when it comes to food and beverage, so don't be selfish in that area. Sometimes people will plan a party with everything that they like. That is not the way to do it. Remember if you are creating a theme, think about your guests for the food and the beverage and the time and so on and so forth.
What are some examples of party themes?
Some great themes are futuristic, space-walking themes, or a Polynesian theme complete with sand. You can do an underwater theme, which means you're literally creating all the activity up above. You can do a nature theme or a toga theme. The list of themes can go on and on. They're only limited to your imagination.
What details should I consider when choosing my party's theme?
Some of the details that you're going to have to think about when choosing your theme is whether or not you want your guests in costume. Remember, that cost can add up for them. That may decide on how many people come to the event depending on whether or not they want to put the money into the costume. Number two, how much money do you want to put into the theme, because theming out a party can get expensive. One of the ways that we like to figure out a theme is what the guests likes to do, number one. Number two is the budget that's involved. Then we can work from there by putting together several packages.
What is a 'dinner party'?
A dinner party is typically when guests get together to sit down and have dinner. It's pretty simple, and it can range from a sit-down dinner to a buffet dinner. Really, a dinner party just explains the time. It could be as intimate or large as you'd like. All that depending on the amount of guests you invited, obviously.
What is a 'cocktail party'?
In most true cocktail parties there is no seating. No seats at all. This way it forces people to mingle. Cocktail parties are very popular to break the ice before a dinner party. Now, of course, today we do put a few chairs around sporadically. Especially for the people that can't stand that long. And I always recommend it. But the fewer chairs, the better, so that people mingle and mix. It makes for a better party.
