What is sound treatment?
Sound treatment is a form of hair removal treatment, or hair reduction treatment, whereby we use a pair of tweezers to introduce the current to the hair. Because hair is porous, it will allow the sound waves to go down the hair shaft to the base of the follicle. At the base of the follicle, we have what are called the papillary cells, which is the living part of the hair. Attached to the papillary cells are the blood capillaries, bringing oxygen and nutrition to the hair root. Because sound travels at a very high speed, the sound waves travel down the hair shaft. They heat the papillary cells with a lot of force and they will disintegrate. In effect, what we've done with sound treatment is cut off the oxygen and food supply to the hair root. When you do this over a period of time, the root gets weaker and weaker, until it eventually dies.
What are the advantages of sound treatment?
Advantages to sound treatment are that it would work on any skin type. It is relatively pain free because it is a non-invasive treatment. You don't have any kind of adverse side effects like scarring or pigmentation. Eventually, you'd have a hair free area.
What are the disadvantages of sound treatment?
There are disadvantages to sound treatment because you are treating each individual hair, so it does take a long time to get a result. You're looking at least two to two and a half years of regular treatment in order to be able to clear an area. It's more effective or more suitable for a smaller area, like the upper lip or eyebrows.
What happens when you undergo sound treatment?
During sound treatment, the area is first cleansed with a sterilizing liquid. A moisturizing cream is applied over the area to be treated. Tweezers are then used to pull the hair out. You're not actually tweezing the hair out because the current is running through it. Sound treatment is a very quick process and you don't really feel much. It's not painful or anything, and a lot less painful than if you were tweezing for example. At the end of the sound treatment, you would have the area hair-free. It's finished off by applying a hair retarding cream, which will also help to slow down the hair growth.
Which areas of the body does it suit?
Sound treatment can be used on any area of the body, but I would suggest smaller areas of hair, because then you'd get a quicker result.
What type of skin does it suit?
Sound treatment will suit any skin type. It's a non-invasive treatment so there's no danger of causing any adverse side effects.
How long does it take until it's effective?
Sound treatment takes about a year to be effective because, when you think in terms of hair growth cycles, one hair growth cycle is about three to three and a half months. Therefore, a year is not a very long time. Because there are two hairs in a follicle at any given time, and we have to catch it at the right stage of growth, which is the anagen stage, it will be at least a year to a year and a half of regular sound treatments to get your result.
How long will it last?
Sound treatment is a permanent hair reduction treatment so once you've got the result, it should last forever.
Is it good value for money?
Sound treatment is good value for money, because once you've managed to get rid of the hair, you don't need to worry about having temporary methods for the rest of your life.
Does it hurt?
Sound treatment is relatively pain-free way of removing hair. If you're going to do the centre bit of the upper lip, for example, it would be a little bit more painful because we have a lot of nerve endings in that area. But if you were to do eyebrows, sound treatment doesn't hurt as much as it would when you're tweezing. On other areas - the chin, for example - you wouldn't feel anything.
