A foul is illegal contact with your body. Whether it's a chopping down on the hands or you're reaching in trying to steal the ball and you hit their hand, or if you're going to shoot, there's contact on your shot, or if it's just running and there's a simple bump. It's illegal contact. That's a foul, offensively or defensively.

How does a basketball game start?
The basketball game starts with a jump ball. There are five players on each team (10 players altogether) surrounded by the middle of the court. Then a referee steps in the middle and throws the ball up between the two tallest guys, or the two guys that can jump the highest. Then you start by tipping the ball to your teammates.
What is the 'shot clock' in basketball?
The shot clock in basketball kind of speeds up the game, which is fantastic. You want a nice flow to a basketball game. In the NBA it's a 24 second clock, in high and school college it is 35 seconds. And that's a little bit longer and a little bit slower flow to the game, but the NBA is a faster pace with the 24 second clock. You have to run your plays, get into things and get a shot off before the shot clock expires. And once the ball hits the rim then the shot clock starts all over again.
What is a 'charging call' in basketball?
A charging call is on offensive foul. It's when the defender steps up and gets his feet set and the offensive player runs over him, or an offensive player can be driving to the basket and extend his arm and push the defender away in order to score the basket. Those are offensive fouls. Those are offensive charging fouls.
