Sales Shopping Explained
Is it a good idea to pick up bargains in the January sales?
The January sales: is it a good idea to go? Don't you think the world's full enough of sofas and carpets bought in the January sales? I suppose I should say that you shouldn't buy things before Christmas if you need something major like a new appliance, because they'll be cheaper after Christmas. But I don't like saying it, because I know I'm just encouraging you to go to the January sales and pick up loads of extra 'bargains' that you really don't need. Ignore adverts that say order now for delivery before Christmas. What's that big deadline all about? Is the world going to end after Christmas? The stuff will still be there, and you can pick it up cheaper in the January sales. What I'm really saying is to be direct about the January sales: don't just get up early, with your mum and your special shoes on, and go to the sales without a clue what you need. Shopping is not a hobby if you want to save money.
Are there any other seasonal sales apart from January?
Are you having a laugh? I don't want you to go to the January sales because I know you're going to overspend. These days sales happen all the time. You can even tell when shops are doing badly as they stage things called "events". What's an event? I don't know. Or mid-season sales. I go up to staff in shops and ask when things will next be marked down. June, July, August is the other peak sale period if you really want to know. And also I've known more that stage some pretty good pre-Christmas toy sales if you really want to wrest my heart secrets from me.
