Jane Furnival (Author) gives expert video advice on: What is the cheapest way to receive digital television? and more...
Can I get reductions on the cost of a TV licence?
A colour TV license costs £131.50 and a black and white license only costs £44, so that's one way of saving money on television. You can spread the cost by paying in instalments over the internet or by direct debit. If you're over seventy-four, you can apply for a short-term TV license. This will cover you until the month you turn seventy-five, when you become entitled to a free over seventy-five TV license. If you're blind, you can apply for a blind concessionary TV license that's half the price of the full license. If you live in residential care, you may qualify for a TV license at just £5 a year.
What is the cheapest way to receive digital television?
What's the best and cheapest way to receive digital t.v.? Sit in a bar or a t.v. shop and watch it for free. Next cheapest is a free-view box, which you connect to your t.v. but first check via the free-view website that you're in the right post card area, 85% of the country can receive this. The cheapest free-view box I find is on amazon.co.uk, and that starts at around twenty pounds new or used, in the shops you'll expect to pay about fifty pounds or more. There are various packages available that will give you more channels of free-view, and I suggest that you type in 'cheapest digital t.v.' to your website search engine and find out which is the one for you. You may find that a combined cable t.v., phone and even broadband package works out cheapest. If you work for a sky service, remember that you may have to pay to install the dish and that some flats, lease hold or listed homes don't always allow satellite dishes. Also that trees and high buildings can interfere with the picture.
