Sex And Pregnancy Myths
Is it true I can't get pregnant when I'm on my period?
You can get pregnant while you are bleeding. If a woman has a shorter menstrual cycle, so a typical one is twenty eight days, if someone has a twenty one day cycle and they bleed for 7 or 8 days that may push them into the time that they're ovulating. Sperm lives for five days. You could absolutely get pregnant by having intercourse the last few days of your period.
Is it true I can't get pregnant from pre-ejaculation?
It's not true. There is a lower sperm count in pre-ejaculation than in a full ejaculation. However, it's just as easy to get pregnant with pre-ejaculation, as long as the sperm make it up where they should be.
Is it true I can't get pregnant if I don't orgasm?
No, not true. An orgasm is the body's way of helping to bring the sperm up to the egg, so whenever a woman has an orgasm the uterus contracts and pulls the sperm from the vagina where it's deposited up into the uterus into the fallopian tubes. However, not having an orgasm is just as easy for someone to get pregnant. The sperm swim on their own. So if you are having pregnancy symptoms then please see your doctor as soon as possible.
If I have sex in water, does that prevent me from getting pregnant?
It doesn't, you're just as likely to get pregnant in water.
Will sex hurt my baby during pregnancy?
No. Unless there's a condition where your doctor recommends that you not have intercourse during pregnancy, such as if someone's had pre-term labor, has a placenta previa, has ruptured membranes, among other reasons, we would instruct someone not to. However, for most people, it's absolutely fine.
Is anal sex safer during pregnancy than vaginal intercourse?
It's not more dangerous. It's dangerous if there is transmission of bacteria from the rectum to the vagina. So if someone has anal sex and then has vaginal sex or someone has anal sex and isn't clean about it for lack of a better word rectal bacteria such as e. coli can be transmitted to the vagina and cause an infection.
If the man orgasms before the woman, does that mean they'll have a girl?
No, the interesting part about that question is that males have both x and y sperm. The male sperm, the y sperm, swim faster and die sooner. The female sperm swim slower but stick around for longer. So what we actually think is that if you have intercourse farther away from the time of ovulation, such as three to five days before a woman ovulates, the male sperm are already dead, the female sperm are still sticking around so you are more likely to have a girl. It's not a lot so more like 55 percent.
Are orgasms unhealthy for fetuses?
No, not at all. There has been absolutely no evidence that a woman having an orgasm once she's pregnant has any impact on the foetus.
