On the web you can find a lot of resources for single parents. There are DivorceMagazine.com or DivorceMag.com has tons of resources for every city that you can download. You can google "single parents" and a lot of things come up. Support groups and web sites, community resources. The internet is always the best choice.

What is a 'single parent support group'?

A single parent support group is a place that meets once a week or once a month, and it includes both men and women. What happens is that you get a speaker that comes and talks for about 45 minutes on different subjects. There are so many subjects to speak about. During the last half hour or 45 minutes, depending on how long it is, is time for questions and answers. There are also support groups that don't have speakers, whereby people just share their wisdom or their fears, and share encouragement and resources. It makes a big difference.

Why should I join a single parent support group?

Joining a single parent support group is important because you don't feel alone. You're going to meet other people, male and female, that have either gone through what you're going through or will go through it. You can help them and they can help you. You can find friends that your child can play with their children. It provides a huge amount of emotional and mental support.
