Skateboard Tricks
Tony Alva (Pro Skateboarder) gives expert video advice on: What types of tricks will receive a standing ovation?; What are the tricks that turn heads today?; Do a skater's tricks define style?
What types of tricks will receive a standing ovation?
It depends on what type of event we're talking about. A standing ovation is rare in skateboarding really, unless the winner of the contest is obvious. Like a guy like Bob Burnquist. It's not really one trick. If you want to get some sort of standing ovation or whatever for your skills, you've got to put it all together. It's not going to be one trick. It's going to be a series of tricks, like Bob Burnquist does. He does everything backwards and does all these tricks that nobody else can do.
What are the tricks that turn heads today?
The tricks that turn heads today are those technical moves done by these street skating whiz kids. These kids are doing things like hand rail vertical leaps onto half pipes causing all kinds of heads to turn, because these sorts of moves are really amazing things to watch. For example, Pierre Luke this guy is pretty amazing. He does not have much personality, but he is definitely an amazing skateboarder. He is a French Canadian and he is just so consistent and does all kinds of technical tricks that would cause your jaws to drop. Somebody like him I think is impressive when you see him skate.
