How did the creation of the X-games change skateboarding?
The main way is that it's brought it right into the living room of households all over the world, starting with the United States and now internationally. Kids can just turn on their television or the computer and boom, there it is. It's right in their face, and they're seeing not only professionally what's going on, but also where every year, it's progressing.
What kind of tricks are skaters doing in this generation?
I think the biggest tricks are probable the most progressive street steps that kids are still doing on the streets. These are so technical, the expertise of these kids are so, it so technical and exact, the way they execute it like some handrail. The 70 degrees, these takes a lot of practice.
Who are some of the best skateboarders now?
I would say probably the best , there's this kid Chris Cole, there's some of the guys that don't even skate at the contest, like I said I mentioned Jamie Thomas, there's that kid Tony Trujillo, he was burning bright for a while I'm just not sure how he's doing now, there's a kid Omar Hussein that I really look up to that's a great skateboarder. Some of the kids that obviously doing well in the contests like Ryan Sheckler, like Paul Rodriguez, and Shaun White's done well lately in advert skateboarding, there's Pierre-Luc. A lot of the kids that you see just regularly placing in the contests, I mean they come and go but there's definitely some guys that have been around for awhile like Bob Burnquist.
What should all skateboarders remember when doing big tricks?
You're not on snow. You're not going to fall on snow. You're going to fall on concrete. You're going to fall on something that hurts. It's like, if you don't make it, I hope you're going to walk away from it, because it's not like you're just going to swim away, or just dust the powder off and walk away. That's the thing about skateboarding. It's a very fixed medium. It's not going to be powder snow, and it's not going to be water when you fall.
How will skateboarding change in the future?
Skateboarding is always changing. There's never one year, one month, one summer, one nothing to where skate boarding's not changing. It's always changing. It's ever evolving and it's progressive. And the thing about skateboarding is, the progression is part of the challenge of skateboarding, the sky is the limit.
