What kind of sponsorship deal should I try to get as a skateboarder?
The best thing that you could ever get sponsored for, as far as skateboarding goes, is a board sponsor. That's the best, because boards are something that is expensive, and they're hard to keep in one piece for any length of time. Obviously, being made out of wood, boards deteriorate quickly, and sometimes delam, fall apart or break in half. So a board sponsor is always key. All of the other components that go on the board; trucks, wheel, bearings, grip tape even. All that. If you're a vert skater, you're going to need a pad sponsor and maybe a helmet sponsor. If you're a street skater, maybe jeans or shoes, because that's what they go through more than anything.
What happens after I get sponsored?
Once you get sponsored I think it's just a matter of how much time you can put into it and what direction you want to take it personally. There's no set guidelines, rules or goals other than the fact that a lot of amateur skateboarders want to eventually skate pro.
How long do skateboard sponsorships usually last?
As long as you are healthy and you are able to perform, because anything can happen in skateboarding. You could break your neck, you could break your leg, you could become paralyzed, and you could be like knocked out. So, skateboarding is rough and tumble thing and it is like basically anything can happen. Guys have been killed skateboarding, basically cerebral hemorrhage, run over by car, hit by a train, and just everything and anything you could ever think of has happen to guys who like skateboarding. Just flash flood in a drainage ditch, swept down the ditch and you are gone.
Can I get multiple sponsors as a skateboarder?
Yeah, it just depends on if there is a conflict of interest or not. There is no way that you would want to have more than one sponsor for the same product. You do not want to have two clothing sponsors, two shoe sponsors, two board sponsors because basically what you are going to do is you are going to whore yourself out to the point where you are going to lose everything, it is like having two girlfriends.
