South America is a really terrific budget destination, the whole continent. Right now there are places where you can get just amazing deals. Buenos Aires is mentioned frequently because the dollar is pretty strong against their currency. And you can eat very well, you can stay in a very nice hotel for not a lot of money. Another place that I'd recommend is Peru. It has an amazing array of natural sites and you don't have to spend a fortune to see them. Ecuador is another place that has very reasonable accomodations and a whole lot of natural resources, things that you would otherwise never see. Those are all places that I would recommend, as well as Chile. There's really no place in South America that I wouldn't recommend with the possible exception of any place that may be on the State Department's list of countries you should not visit. There are some tremendously popular budget destinations in South America for families. The most is the probably the Galapagos Islands. Getting to the Galapagos can be expensive but you do have a variety of choices. The trick is what you pay for is what you are going to get. If you pay a lot you are probably going to get better service. You can do a mid price trip and not spend a huge amount of money. It really is a terrific family destination. There are many other places in South America that are great for families. Peru is a fantastic destination particularly for teaching children about history and history of the entire continent. There are many places in South America that I can recommend.

Singles can find really terrific vacation destinations if they are on the budget just about anywhere in South America, but there is one place in particular that a lot of people will go to, and that's Punta Del Este in Uruguay. It's a really fascinating beach destination, with lots of nightlife. It can be a little pricy, but again, if you select your hotels wisely and watch your pennies, you can have a really terrific time.

South America, I think is really one of the undiscovered travel gems. There's a lot of history both indigenous and European. There's also tremendous nightlife, great culture, terrific shopping opportunities, and great cuisine. I am very excited about South America, and I think it represents the budget traveller's dream come true.
