Student Life: How To Address Your Tutors
Simon Kemp (Lecturer, Module Coordinator) gives expert video advice on: How should I address my tutors?
How should I address my tutors?
You can address your tutor in the way that your tutor prefers. Different tutors have different expectations. Your personal tutor would probably say to you in your very first tutorial meeting how they prefer to be addressed. It might be Professor, it might be Doctor, it might be Mr, it might be Miss, or it might be on a first name basis. Personally, I always insist that I am called on a first name basis. I always insist my tutees call me Simon. Some lecturers might prefer to be called Doctor. In the first lecture, if you've got any questions, then refer to them by their title. They might then say, "Actually, you can call me by my first name." Or, they might say, "No, you've got to call me by the title." It depends on the individual.
