What is 'style'?
Style is an interpretation of your full look from head to toe. Hair, makeup, wardrobe and accessories, all put together to really broadcast who you are. That's what style is.
What is a 'stylist'?
A stylist is someone who maintains your wardrobe. He or she does shopping for you on a regular basis with a budget that you create together. A stylist is someone who you consult with to figure out what looks best for you and your body type, what colors look best for you, what fabrics work best for your skin tone. That's what a stylist is and that's what a stylist does.
Are there any rules to style?
There are so many rules to style. Do we have enough time for that?! There are about a million rules to style. I would say that one of them, mainly, is to wear the right shoes. Don't wear cheap shoes! Cheap shoes are always a no-no.
How do I choose a style that's right for me?
How you choose the right style for you is first of all, try on things that you never thought that you would try on before, just to see if the new trends are made for your body type. You could be pear shaped, you could be boy shaped, you could be full figured. You have to really pay attention to your body type and try on certain things that fit you to create your certain style.
What makes clothes 'trendy'?
Trendy clothes are interpretations of the fashion forecasts that are presented on the latest seasons runways. That basically creates fashions trends.
What makes clothes 'classic'?
Classics clothes have basic shapes and basic styles interpreted with different fabrics through time, that you can wear from now until whenever. You can take a classic piece from the forties or even the twenties and wear it now. What makes something classic is usually that the cut will translate through a whole generation.
How does media influence style trends?
Media influences style trends so much. Media influence is basically when you see a celebrity wearing a certain item of clothing. If you see it more than once, the general population begins to think that it's okay to wear that. Designers see that, and then they start to create a whole line according to what is shown on television. That then creates a trend. I always say just pay attention - if it doesn't look good on you, it's not for you.
Where can I find the latest fashion trends?
The latest fashion trends can always be found on style.com. That's one really good selection. You can always look at magazines. Magazines have such good examples of fashion trends, but they kind of mix together and blend it to create whatever styles they want to do. Also, just take a look at people walking down the street. That alone will tell you what's hot right now.
Do I have to follow the latest trends to be stylish?
You do not have to follow the latest trends to be stylish. You can take pieces from a vintage clothing store, pieces from your own closet, pieces that you never thought you would wear again, and just re-invent it. Maybe take clothing to a tailor, have something added to it, some leather or maybe some mesh or a different type of fabric, and create something new within your own wardrobe. Then you have your own style.
Do I have to be rich to be stylish?
It helps, but you don't have to be rich to be stylish. You can go to a vintage store or a thrift store, like Salvation Army, spend 50 bucks and come out with an amazing outfit.
Is style about quality or quantity?
Style is about both quantity and quality. It just depends on the person. Some people are simple and they like basic things that are stylish. Personally, I like a lot of selection because I never know where I'm going at a given time and I want to make sure I always look fabulous.
