Sugaring Body Hair
What is sugaring?
Sugaring is a hair removal method which was used originally in the Middle East, and it has spread pretty well worldwide. Sugaring uses a mixture of sugar and water, and very often lemon juice, which may be bought ready-made, or it can be made at home in the way that it used to be, years ago, in Egypt, and Persia, and all the Middle Eastern countries. It has the same effect as waxing because it pulls the hair out from the root, by holding the shaft of the hair and pulling the hair from the skin. Sugaring can be used on the same kind of areas, and in the same way, as waxing. It has an advantage in as much as it's made from organic material, from sugar, so it is very easy to get rid of any residue; any sticky bits can easily be washed away. With wax, that's not quite so successful. On the other hand, sugaring doesn't always work as well, on very coarse deep hair, as hot wax. Therefore, it's got advantages and disadvantages, but is a very useful method of temporarily removing unwanted hair.
What are the advantages of sugaring?
Sugaring is quite an advantageous method of hair removal because it gets the hair out of the skin, so it leaves the skin smooth and soft and fine. Sugaring doesn't leave the skin too sticky; any which is left behind can be easily washed away. It doesn't have side effects. It can be used very effectively on leg hair or body hair, or occasionally on smaller areas on the face. Sugaring has no side problems with it, because there are no chemicals used which might have any effect on the surface of the skin. Like any hair removal, it cannot be performed if there is any infection, but it is a very effective method of temporarily removing hair, and can be used as a hair removal on legs, under-arms and arms with no problems.
What are the disadvantages of sugaring?
The disadvantages of sugaring are perhaps that it's very difficult to use on oneself. Some people do use it. It's not exactly a home treatment and it is much easier because you need to stretch the skin and to do one's own legs with it would be very difficult. Sugaring is a treatment which is, again, much more successfully taken in a salon. It does pull the skin. There is no doubt that it is a little bit painful. It can't be used if there are lots of surface capillaries. It certainly can never be used on varicose veins or anywhere where there are any kind of skin eruptions, any moles, or any warts, or any skin problems of any type. Sugaring is something which really should be in the hands of a professional.
How long does sugaring last?
Sugaring lasts for about the same length of time as waxing because both methods hold the hair and pull it out from the root. It takes a hair around about six weeks to re-grow. Some hairs take six months, but most hair has a hair growth cycle which will start to produce new hair which shows above the surface of the skin within about six weeks. Waxing and sugaring will probably last between a month and six weeks because there are always some hairs which are starting to grow which don't yet show. Those are the ones which are popping out of the surface of the skin within a month or six weeks. You could expect to maybe need to have the legs sugared every five or six weeks.
Is sugaring good value for money?
Sugaring is good value for money in a salon because there are many advantages to it. It's quite quick, if any traces are left behind they can easily be removed, and salons are very good at offering sugaring services as opposed to, or as well as, waxing. Sugaring is not something that you can safely use at home, so to buy an expensive pot of sugar product and try and use it at home is not very sensible.
