The Male Reproductive System Basics
Peter Loisides (Board Certified Urologist, Saint John's Health Center) gives expert video advice on: What makes up the male reproductive system? and more...
What makes up the male reproductive system?
The male reproductive system consists of the testicles which make the sperm, and the vas deferens which conduct the sperm to the urinary system, which is part of the genital system in men. The vas deferens joins the prostate, and the seminal vesicles (along with the prostate) form fluids which support the sperm so that they can live for an extended period of time outside the body after ejaculation.
How does the prostate work?
The purpose of the prostate is to actually generate a supporting fluid that is the primary composition of semen. This fluid supports the sperm in conjunction with fluid from the seminal vesicles to allow the sperm to survive outside the body for an extended period of time after ejaculation.
