Tipping The Food Delivery Person

Service Industry (Various Positions) gives expert video advice on: What should I know about being a food delivery person?; How much should I tip a food delivery person?; How should I tip a food delivery person during the holidays? and more...

What should I know about being a food delivery person?

It's not just dealing with the traffic, and the stress of driving around. But you're also dealing with the stress at the restaurants. Some restaurants are really busy, and there too busy. They don't have the food ready, they screw up the order, we get blamed. Or you get there and they expect us to do part of their job because they're too busy to do it and because we're not the customer. I would love to tell some of these customers, look, don't order here anymore. "Every time we order from this place our order gets screwed up." Well you know what? That's telling you something and maybe you should find another restaurant.

Well first off, for the people that don't tip I just want to say the the driver remembers that and the people that do tip, they get better and faster service. I was a driver for 12 years the reason is because it paid for my school. I went to school for Law Enforcement. I always tip the driver at least $5 cause if I can't afford that then I really shouldn't be ordering food for delivery. Just remember they provide a service for you when you are drunk and can't drive. Also they are out there in bad weather, rain, snow, -12 degrees out, tornadoes etc so you don't have to leave your warm dry house. Now at the same time yea that job isn't very hard. I made about $17 to $35 an hour sometimes, but I was really fast also. But the traffic a lot of times is a pain in the a$$ because you have people that don't even do the speed limit so that holds the drivers up. Oh and you can be ticketed for driving too slow in Indiana. I was always happy with $3 to $5. Its better than nothing but 20% seems a little high expect but I also took care of my good customers. The thing you have to think about is without the delivery driver you would have to go get the food yourself and risk getting a D.U.I. when I pull you over for driving over the line. Think about that next time.

I never understood why people balk at giving a driver a decent tip. I doubt Zack and Mr. Anonymous would stiff their waitresses or waiters like that. Drivers provide a convenient service, is a $5 too much to part with if you're saving the time, the gas, and hassle of going to get the food yourself? Quit being cheap b*****ds.

Most delivery drivers get little or no hourly pay now, 2 or 3 dollars under min wages or less. So tipping IS how we get paid. As for calling or writing a letter, Don't bother, that don't pay the bills. Just image. A mechanic fixes your car, and you say nice job and don't pay him.

So all she does is drive food to houses and she expects 20% of the total PLUS her base wages?! That's ridiculous. It's her JOB to deliver food, and if she wants more money she should get real one.

20% HAHAHA GREEDDDDYY BEEECH! That's ridiculous! So one were already paying extra for the food cause its a delivery, two were already tipping the food guy, and now you want us to tip you 20%!!! thats 1/5th of the meal!!!! If I ever see you come to my door you'd get nothing for being so cheeky!
