Trading Your Car In
How do I trade-in my used car to a dealership?
How do I sell my car to a dealer?
If you put your vehicle up for sale and you're having trouble finding a buyer or finding a buyer that's willing to give you the price that you expect for it, one option is to actually sell it to a used car dealer. This is, of course, different than the trade-in because you're not looking for a new vehicle to drive away with; you're just looking to sell the vehicle. This should probably be seen as almost a last resort, in that the dealer is going to be, obviously, looking for as much profit margin as he can when he goes to sell the car after you've gone. So it is a good option in the respect that there are people out there with money in hand ready to buy vehicles, but you're going to get probably a reduced rate or a reduced return or value for the vehicle than you would from selling it to a private buyer.
How do I get rid of my car if it's worthless?
If you've identified that your vehicle's probably worthless to the marketplace--it either has way too many miles, is too old, or is just plain undesirable, it's not a classic car that has a great amount of enthusiasm for it--there are other ways to do it. Donating it to a charity, to a church, to different entities like this is good, not only for you but also obviously for the charity and any sort of tax deductions you may be able to collect from that offering. Lastly, one solution would be to part it out yourself or sell it to a junkyard and allow them to sell the vehicle off part by part. You won't get much money for it that way, but at least the vehicle has gone away.
