With fire safety equipment, people should certainly consider fitting sprinkler systems, most of the new modern houses being built are being be fitted with a sprinkler system. People should mainly consider installing a smoke alarm; this is the most important fire safety equipment they should have in their house. Certainly, if you have the money and you can go ahead and install a sprinkler system, then that would be the safest thing to have in your house.

What are the different types of fire extinguisher?

There are four types of fire extinguisher: foam fire extinguishers, CO2 fire extinguishers, dry powder fire extinguishers, and water fire extinguishers. These fire extinguishers come in cylinders which are mainly red and have a five percent colour banding around the top. Foam is a cream band, and foam fire extinguishers are used on electrical fires and petrol fires. CO2 is a black band which are once again used on electrical fires. Water is completely red. Water fire extinguishers would be used on normal wood fires, fabric fires. And dry powder fire extinguishers are also used for electrical fires, and this will have a blue band round the top.

Where should fire extinguishers be kept?

Fire extinguishers should be kept in an area where they're close to the source of ignition and in an area where they can be easily accessible by the people that are going to use them. Certainly never obstruct a fire extinguisher, and never use one to prop a door open. If possible, hang them on the wall.
