Understanding Curly Hair

Robert Steinken (Celebrity Hairstylist) gives expert video advice on: How can I make the most of my curly hair?; How should I blow dry my curls?; How often can I straighten my hair without damaging it? and more...

How often should I wash my curly hair?

If you have curly hair, you can probably get away without washing your hair as often as somebody say with fine, thin hair. Generally, the hair shaft will absorb some of the natural oils. But then again, everyone is an individual. Some people produce more oil, some less. If you notice your hair is getting a little greasy at the roots, that's the sign that it's time to shampoo. It's always good to not over shampoo your hair. It takes the conditioning out of it. It tends to dry it a little bit more. I would say generally every second day would be a good idea.

I have very fine curls and this is good advice- I've been going by these rituals for ages- I've stopped using dyes, blow dryers, and I've stopped straightening it, because it's a pain in the ass. Conditioning is a KEY point in making your curls beautiful Serum also. It's okay to use hair spray to keep the poof out. When you are in the shower, flip your hair down as you condition, running your fingers through you hair (combing and brushing it when it's wet is BAD because it will frizz out like crazy!!!!) Leave the conditioner in for a few moments than rinse, running your fingers through your hair while you do this. After you rinse, apply serum from roots to tip with your fingers and scrunch a little bit. Than, you flip your hair down again and spray the s**t out of it - inside and out.... Let it air dry....... Honestly, don't use a blowdryer on it because you'll frizz out - even diffusers can do this too. In order for it to be dry when you head out, you'll just have to do your hair at least an hour before you leave.

Your hair is wavy, not curly. This video is for people with curly hair. In addition, can you please sort out your grammatical skills because it is getting on my nerves!

my hair is very wavy and i have to shower every day, and i usually blow dry it straight and always straighten it in the morning. i use heat protective spray, but i still straighten my hair every day. i cant go out without straightening it. yet my hair is still very very soft and shiny. what should i do to keep it straight without constantly using a straightener?
