Wedding Cake Etiquette
Do I have to have a wedding cake at my reception?
You don't have to have a wedding cake at your reception; it's your day. You can serve any type of dessert that you want. You can even use your dessert cakes as your center pieces instead of having a huge wedding cake to cut into.
Does my wedding cake need to be white?
Your wedding cake does not need to be white. Most modern cakes are very colorful. I've seen cakes, or decorated cakes, actually, that are lime green or purple. It all reflects on the style that you want, whether it's modern or traditional. But typically white is not a color you have to stick by.
When should we cut the cake?
The wedding cake is cut usually after the guests have danced for a while after dinner - typically half an hour after the dinner is served. It usually symbolizes the wedding reception coming to an end.
How should we announce when we are cutting our wedding cake?
An announcement is made to cut the wedding cake usually by your DJ or your MC, or a trusted family member telling everyone that the cake is about to be cut.
