What is an 'engraved printed' wedding invitation?
Engraved invitations date back to the 17th century. A copper plate is created and is imprinted on the paper and results in a raised lettering. Engraving is a very expensive technique and is used for formal events and brides with very little budgetary concerns. The copper plate is created because often the bride and groom really love having a copper plate, because most of the companies will provide it to you afterwards and it's a really nice keepsake.
What is a 'thermographically printed' wedding invitation?
Thermography invitations result in the same raised lettering as engraving. However, they're much more cost efficient. The ink and powder fuse together which causes a raised lettering.
What is a 'lithography printing'?
Lithography or offset is a flat printing. It's flat, it is absorbed by the paper. And you can actually touch the paper and the ink. Also, there is no definition between the font and the paper.
What is a 'calligrapher'?
A calligrapher is someone who addresses your envelopes by hand. A calligrapher is more expensive than computerized calligraphy.
Is it okay to hand write addresses on wedding invitations?
Unless somebody has beautiful handwriting, I would say it's okay, but for the most part, I would really say it's not okay. Traditionally people want their wedding invitations to look quite formal.
