Working With Models
Jo Reid (Founder of Blush Ltd) gives expert video advice on: Do you prefer to work with models who have a certain look?; Which types of people make the best models?; What advice would you give to aspiring models? and more...
Do you prefer to work with models who have a certain look?
I would say the best type of model isn't necessarily the easiest. But for me, the easiest model has clear skin, clear eyes, and fine features that seem to respond quite well to makeup. But the most interesting models are actually the ones who are more challenging and have quite difficult features to work with, and then you're really testing yourself.
Which types of people make the best models?
It's very hard to work with a model who appears to be miserable and not enjoying the job because they don't seem to want to work with you, and therefore, that feeds back and you don't want to work with them. But the best type of model really is someone who's enjoying themselves, happy in their job and has a laugh. That's what this should be about really.
What advice would you give to aspiring models?
I would really give aspiring models the advice to go and do their research. Look into the schools properly. There's lots of schools out there who charge a fortune for you to study there, but you don't get a certificate that you can use at the end. There's lots of models who have become makeup artists now who do charge to train with them, but really it's not worth it.
What's your view on the size zero' debate?
I think the size zero debate is a very very difficult one. Models start off at 15. 15 year olds can be very very small. In particular the youngest 15 year olds who, like myself, when i was 15, was flat chested and weighed a feather but obviously as you get older you need to perform a figure, and your never going to be a size zero hopefully when your in your twenties.
