We show you how to make vanilla buttercream frosting.
6 cups powdered sugar (or icing sugar)
12 oz butter (slightly soft)
¾ cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Add to a mixing bowl the sugar, butter and milk. Mix slowly by hand using a mixing paddle attachment. Once the mixture is wet, you’re ready to mix with an electric mixture.
Start to mix for a few minutes on a medium/high speed – be prepared for some dust to disperse.
Test the mixture. If it’s too wet, add some more powdered sugar to thicken it up (half a cup at a time) and fold it in by hand. Once it’s nice and thick, add it to the electric mixer at a medium/high speed once more.
The colour should be lighter and the texture should be smooth and creamy and should hold nicely to the paddle.
Add the vanilla extract and mix for a about a minute. And there you have it, that’s how you make butter icing.
