Gallo, the scientist who became world famous when he co-discovered HIV. Gallo and his team also pioneered the development of the HIV blood test, which, for the first time, enabled screening for the AIDS virus. Dr. Gallo has the distinction of twice winning the Albert Lasker Award in Medicine.
