Kimberly Oliver

USEX0048 Expert National Teacher of the Year, Broad Acres Elementary School, Maryland Kimberly Oliver is a passionate teacher, a proponent of early childhood education, and is the 56th National Teacher of the Year. A kindergarten teacher at Broad Acres Elementary School in Silver Spring, Maryland, Kimberly began teaching at the school when it was in danger of state takeover due to declining academic performance. Soon, her innovative teaching skills and strong parent outreach were resulting in soaring student literacy levels and rising performance. Kimberly emphasizes community and collaboration in her teaching. “Through collaborating with others, I helped turn around an underperforming school despite the obstacles of poverty, race, language, and mobility.” In her work as National Teacher of the Year, she aims to raise awareness about the importance of preschool and early childhood education in raising achievement levels and living standards later in life.
