The 1960s are remembered as a time of social change and pop culture, but the world was also witnessing the face-off of two global superpowers, the USA and the Soviet Union. Their ideological differences led to heightened tensions in many parts of the world (the Cuban missile crisis, the Vietnam war) and to the space race.
