Be sure to keep your dog in an enclosed space during the night. When they are old enough to take walks, be sure that they get them every three hours for a three-month old dog, every four hours for a four-month old dog, and so on. At eight months, they should be fine throughout the night.

Shutzhund is dog training at the highest level. This goes past just sit and shake. This training started in Germany, and takes both the human and the dog working together to produce a result. Any breed can do Shutzhund, but they do have to already be well versed in the more simple commands and directions. Shutzhund focuses on three areas of behavior: tracking, obedience, and protection. Tracking means being able to follow a trail and stay focused on it. Obedience is about being able to follow through on commands. In protection, dogs must be able to demonstrate they can ‘bark and hold’.

Can dogs be agreeable? Do they feel bad when they’ve done something wrong? Do they miss people? Dog trainer Babette Haggarty talks about dogs and their emotions. When a Jack Russel Terrier messes up the house, can that be classified as neurotic behavior? People often choose their pets based on whether or not their personalities are similar. If both are say, agreeable, then living together will be that much easier. Mitch Wilder, a pet specialist, will talk about his dog and research that has been done in this fascinating subject.
