Summary: After 10 years of active duty in the Navy as a journalist and public affairs officer, Nico Melendez was appointed Special Assistant for Public Affairs by President George W. Bush. After September 11, 2001, this appointment led him to the planning committee that eventually became what is now known as the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). Today, Mr. Melendez serves as the primary point of contact between the TSA and the media.
